Desertification is known as "the cancer of the earth" and is a major ecological challenge facing the world. According to UN data, 12 million hectares of land lose productivity due to desertification every year, directly affecting the lives of nearly 1 billion people. In this protracted war between humans and sand, China has always been at the forefront. Since its founding, the Kubuqi Desert International Forum has become an important platform for exchanges and cooperation in the global desertification control field, promoting the progress of world desert control technologies.
This forum gathered experts, enterprise and institutional representatives from around the world to jointly explore new paths for desert governance. Waterproof sand is a new type of engineering material that can effectively fix sand particles and prevent wind-sand movement. Compared with traditional straw checkerboards, waterproof sand has a longer service life and better sand-fixing effect, and will not lose its function due to natural degradation. The desert management superabsorbent polymer can absorb thousands of times its own weight in water, forming "micro-reservoirs" in the soil. Representatives from Kazakhstan and Mongolia directly put forward cooperation intentions on the spot, hoping to apply these technologies to desertification control in the Central Asian grasslands.
