B4L (Business for Land) is a flagship corporate initiative under the UNCCD. It targets leading global enterprises with robust technical capabilities and social responsibility, aiming to mobilize commercial forces to deeply engage in land restoration, desertification control and delivery of the Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) target. It stands as the highest-profile and most authoritative platform for corporate participation in the global arid zone ecological industry today. Admission as a B4L observer member means the enterprise’s technical roadmap, engineering practices and sustainable development philosophy have passed professional assessment and received official endorsement at the United Nations level. This selection validates the international authoritative recognition of Maenam Hi-Tech’s self-developed micro-nano coated ecological new material technology system and years of practical desert governance projects. Previously, the enterprise took an active part in an authoritative industry-university-research outcome led by the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University. This collaborative work brings together key domestic research institutes, universities, large state-owned enterprises, listed firms and high-quality players in ecological technology, forming one of China’s most influential industry-university-research achievements in energy, water-soil conservation, ecology and smart governance. Meanwhile, the enterprise leads the Yellow River Basin desert carbon sink pilot project, exploring cutting-edge approaches in ecological restoration and carbon sink accounting.
The value of technology must ultimately be tested in desert landscapes. Leveraging core materials including waterproof sand and hydrated water-retaining agents, Maenam Hi-Tech has built an AI-enabled full-chain ecological governance solution covering sand fixation — water retention — soil fertility improvement — vegetation restoration. Among its products, waterproof sand adopts micro-nano coating technology to stabilize sand structures and precisely regulate moisture, effectively curbing dune movement and water evaporation. Hydrated water-retaining agents feature ultra-high water absorption capacity, continuously supplying water to plant roots under extreme drought and substantially boosting vegetation survival rates. To date, the enterprise’s technologies have been deployed in major Chinese sand regions including Kubuqi, Mu Us and Taklamakan, accumulating abundant engineering experience and measured data across climatic zones and desertification types. Internationally, its business footprint spans more than 40 countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. It has pioneered large-scale desert field trials in Saudi Arabia, deploying Chinese technology to tackle extreme drought and high salinity in the Middle East, delivering a replicable, quantifiable “Chinese solution” for global desertification control. From domestic sandlands to Middle Eastern deserts, Maenam Hi-Tech has demonstrated through solid engineering results that Chinese ecological new materials technology is fully capable of supporting global ecological governance.
Admission as a UNCCD B4L observer member is both an honour and a responsibility. From this new platform under the United Nations, Maenam Hi-Tech will engage in international dialogues on global desertification governance as an observer member, maintaining regular exchanges and collaboration with top global enterprises, research institutes and international organizations to systematically export China’s ecological new materials technologies and engineering experience. The company will actively participate in discussions and formulation of international desertification control technical standards, aligning Chinese technical indicators with international standard systems. It will join in co-developing flagship global desertification governance cases, translating domestic sand restoration experience and overseas trial results into replicable international demonstration projects. It will strengthen technical cooperation and industrial implementation with Belt and Road countries, enabling more regions suffering from desertification to benefit from Chinese technologies. Looking ahead, Maenam Hi-Tech will continue to take technological innovation as its core driving force and ecological restoration as its corporate mission. It will further deepen research and application of green ecological new materials, contributing Chinese corporate wisdom and strength to advancing the global sustainable development goal of Land Degradation Neutrality and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
